Time of prayer for peace
In Medjugorje the Queen of peace continues the peaceful mission which God has already entrusted to Her in Fatima. She reminds us again and again:
“I came to help you as humanity is on the path of self-destruction. There is no other way to peace except returning to God. No one can give you peace except God. Peace on earth is possible only under one condition — you must return to God and place Him first in your life”. She teaches us that peace in the world begins in the heart of each one of us when we become the creators of peace.
A few days ago She called us to be persistent in praying for peace. She said: “Pray for all government representatives of the countries for them to choose the path of peace. Let peace come first. Peace not war. Therefore be persistent in prayer. I have been with you all these years and I am praying together with you for peace. I cover all of you with My Mantle, the Mantle of peace”.
In Medjugorje She often calls us to pray the Rosary for peace just as She did in Fatima. The Rosary is a path that changes our lives, brings peace and unites us with Jesus. The earthly life of Our Lady was filled with the Rosary prayer. Her gaze was constantly turned towards Jesus and this is the very essence of the Rosary prayer.
In Her last message She calls us to make this time a time of prayer for peace, this is a call for us to become prayer. It means to look at everything that happens in unity with Jesus – with His gaze full of love and mercy. This can be seen in the lives of saints. They lived their lives as a prayer, they were the instruments of peace and blessing for others.
We learn to live in peace in our families. When a married couple and children pray the Rosary together then peace comes to this family and spreads further – to the village, country and world. The peace in the world doesn’t grow from peace conferences but from the hearts which learn to pray, forgive and love in the families.
“Dear sisters and brothers, October is a month which in Church is dedicated to the Holy Rosary in a special way. Therefore every day next month I encourage all of you to pray the Rosary for peace personally, in the family and community”, – the Holy Father Leo XIV reminded us during the General Audience on September, 24th 2025.
We entrust the history of the world into God’s hands with the Rosary prayer step by step. True peace is never given for free – it always comes at a cost. The peace of our hearts cost Jesus His life. He brought peace through His sacrifice on the Cross. Therefore Mary asks us to fast on bread and water on Wednesdays and Fridays and to offer small renunciations and sacrifices for peace. Since the very beginning of Her apparitions, She has been assuring us: “Only prayer and fast can stop wars”.
Peace is a person: Jesus Christ. He is our peace (Ephesians, 2:14). We receive Him most profoundly in Holy Communion and during Adoration. Before Jesus in the Eucharist our hearts become quiet, humble and filled with peace. Our Lady leads us to Adoration: “Adore My Son”, and also to daily reading of the Holy Scripture: “Place the Holy Scripture in a visible place in your family”. God’s word is a word of peace. When we read and accept it then it changes us.
Peace is not only a feeling but also a decision. To choose peace means not to respond to offence with offence but with blessing; it means to forgive; not to spread gossip; not to raise one’s voice; it means bringing reconciliation where there is division.
Prayer:
Mother of peace, cover us with Your Mantle and help us to stay vigilant with You in the Rosary prayer for peace. We recommend to You those who are responsible for peace and war in the world, we implore You to help them choose peace. Obtain for us the precious gift of peace, both for our families and the whole world. In a special way we entrust to You the countries suffering from war. We give You this time for the sake of fulfilling Your plans for peace which God has entrusted to You. Amen.
