THANKSGIVING AFTER HOLY COMMUNION (continued) (Fr. Slavko Barbarić, OFM)

My good and sweet Jesus

Behold, my good and sweet Jesus, I kneel before Your face and, with the greatest fervor of my heart, I ask and implore You: grant me and instill in my heart living feelings of faith, hope, and love, and true repentance for my sins, along with a firm resolve to amend my life. I pray for this while reflecting within myself, gazing in spirit upon Your five wounds, and keeping before my eyes what the prophet David said about You, O good Jesus: “They have pierced my hands and my feet; I can count all my bones.”

Prayer of Pope Clement XI

I believe, Lord, but strengthen my faith;

I hope, but make my hope firmer;

I love, but let my love be more ardent;

I repent, but let my repentance be more sincere.

I adore You as the Creator of all;

I long for You as my final end;

I praise You as the Giver of grace;

I call upon You as my sure protector.

By Your wisdom, guide me, Lord;

by Your righteousness, uphold me, O God;

by Your goodness, comfort me, Father;

by Your protection, guard me, Creator.

I offer You my thoughts, that they may turn to You;

I offer You my words, that they may speak of You;

I offer You my deeds, that they may glorify You;

I offer You my life, that it may belong to You.

I desire what You desire,

I desire it because You desire it;

I desire it as You desire it, and as long as You desire it.

I ask You, Lord, enlighten my mind.

I beg You, O God, inflame my will.

I ask You, Lord, purify my heart.

I beg You, O God, sanctify my soul.

Grant me to grieve for my sins;

grant me to flee from temptations;

grant me to be free from vices;

grant me to grow in virtues.

Grant me, good God, love for You and hatred of evil.

Grant me, good God, love for my neighbor and detachment from the world.

Grant me to be obedient to those above me;

grant me to serve those entrusted to me;

grant me to be a friend to my friends;

grant me to be merciful to my enemies.

Let penance overcome desire;

let generosity conquer greed;

let gentleness overcome hatred;

let fervor of heart overcome indifference.

Grant me wisdom in counsel;

grant me courage in danger;

grant me patience in adversity;

grant me humility in prosperity.

Make me attentive in prayer;

make me moderate in food;

make me diligent in work;

make me firm in decisions.

Grant me inner purity;

grant me outward modesty;

grant me pure speech;

grant me a blameless life.

Grant that I may master nature;

grant that I may cooperate with grace;

grant that I may be obedient to Your laws;

grant that I may desire Your salvation.

Teach me to value what is little on earth;

teach me to value what is great in heaven;

teach me to see how short the temporal is;

teach me to see how boundless eternity is.

Grant that I may be ready for death;

grant that I may remember judgment;

grant that I may fear hell;

grant that I may attain heaven.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mary, Most Holy Virgin and Mother

Mary, Most Holy Virgin and Mother, behold, I have received Your beloved Son, whom You conceived in Your immaculate womb, bore, nourished, and lovingly held in Your arms. You looked upon Him with joy and the greatest delight. Now I humbly and lovingly present and offer Him to You, that You may embrace Him with Your hands and kiss Him with Your heart, and present Him to the Most Holy Trinity as the highest act of worship, for Your honor and glory, and for the needs of mine and of the whole world. I beg You, most kind Mother, obtain for me the forgiveness of all my sins, abundant grace to serve Him more faithfully from now on, and the gift of final perseverance, that I may praise Him with You forever and ever. Amen.
