Our Lady of Medjugorje’s May 25, 2026 monthly message:
“Dear children, may this time be for you a time of prayer and fasting. Return, little children, in love to God Who isyour peace. I am with you, little children, and I love you with My motherly tenderness. Thank you for havingresponded to My call.”
In Her April message Our Lady called us to a new life in joy and prayer and warned us that our life on earth is short. We are
missing the wisdom of the psalmist who prays: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Ps. 90:12).
In this message She calls us to consecrate the days and lives given to us to prayer and fasting so that we may draw closer to God.
Prayer and fasting are powerful means that help us in our spiritual growth and in the battle against everything that threatens our
lives. Fasting is one of the ways to draw closer to God especially when it seems that God has distanced Himself from me and my
life has become difficult. Fasting helps when you feel in your life that you have hit the wall and are unable to move forward.
Fasting helps when it seems that God does not hear you. When the temptation to give up everything overtakes you and you think
you can do nothing, you can still do something – you can fast. This is a way to come out of the state and feeling that God is far
away.
In the Gospel according to Mark Jesus says that prayer and fasting are powerful spiritual means in the battle against unclean
spirits: “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting”. (Mk. 9:29). Prayer and fasting are two ways by which we can
fight against unclean spirits. At the core of the Lord’s prayer is a request for God’s will to be fulfilled in my life. It was also the
heart of Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.
It means that I distance myself; there is less of me and more of God. Where I rely on my own power, my own opinion, my own
ego and my own authority I clear that space within myself and allow God to act. This is the heart of prayer. This is also the heart
of fasting because through fasting we weaken our bodies and lose the strength of the flesh but the power of the spirit is
strengthened by God. I do not fight temptation by my own strength, but I step back so that God may fight instead of me. We are
not stronger than temptations; rather we become weaker in our ego and selfishness so that God may conquer evil and the devil
within us.
Prayer
Jesus’ Mother and our Mother, we thank You for Your desire to lead us back to God of love in Whom our peace is and Whom You
have experienced in Your Heart and life. You carried God in Your womb and in Your Heart. We beseech You: bring Him to every
family and every human heart. Obtain for us the grace that like Elizabeth we may exclaim with joy that You come to us and bring
God. We implore You in a special way for every human heart filled with fear, hatred, pain and suffering. May every heart feel
love with which You love us and Your desire to lead us to Jesus, full of mercy and love and Who alone may give peace to
peaceless hearts and peaceless world. Amen.
