Mary in Her message today encourages us with words about Jesus’s life and these words She kept in Her Heart.
When Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well He said to her: “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.
Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life”. He did not mean ordinary
water but a new life that comes from Him. Jesus is a spring that never runs dry.
The story of the Samaritan woman at the well is a beautiful image of what is happening in Medjugorje. We come here with
broken hearts, wounded, despairing, without life, hungry and thirsty…
For millions of pilgrims Medjugorje is a place where a new life is born. This happens first of all in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. Here Mary leads us toward Jesus – toward the confessional.
The Samaritan woman came to the well with her ordinary vessel and she left with a heart filled with grace. Her encounter with
Jesus opened her heart to the truth about her life and at the same time filled her with mercy and hope. Jesus did not condemn her
but led her to the truth that sets us free. The same thing happens in every Holy Confession.
Jesus is waiting for us at the well of His mercy. He knows everything about our lives and still accepts us with love. He purifies us,
heals us, and always gives us new strength to begin a new life like a spring that is constantly giving us fresh water. It is never the
same water, it does not repeat itself, it is always new.
The Samaritan woman after her encounter with Jesus left her vessel behind and ran to share the joyful news. Her old burdens
were left behind. It was a profound and trust-filled encounter with Jesus.
Then she became a missionary. The one who had come alone, perhaps ashamed, returned to the town and called others. This is
what we need to experience ourselves as well. Mary knows this. Today She invites us to a new life – to a Holy Confession with
the heart.
Jesus says that whoever believes in Him the rivers of living water will flow from within them. When we allow God to act we
ourselves become a spring by the power of the Holy Spirit not by our own power.
The closer we get to Him in prayer, the Eucharist and the Gospel the more our hearts are filled with pure and living water. We
become the spring and missionaries of love and peace.
May, consecrated to Mary and filled with new life in nature’s beauty, begins. Praying the May novena and the Rosary is like
allowing Mary to take our hands and guide us toward this spring flowing into eternal life. She teaches us to stop, to listen, to drink
deeply of God’s love and then to carry it further. The same happens with our hearts when they become a missionary hearts: where
we are with God there is life, where living water flows there is life. This is what the Virgin Mary strives for.
Let May be for us an invitation to come to Jesus together with Mary and to draw from the source of living water and to allow this
new life to flow into the world through us.
Thank You, Mary, for Your prayer for us. Your prayer opens heaven. Help us to choose together with You a new life in joy and
prayer in every moment. We want to follow You especially during this month. We offer it to You for Your intentions and plans for
peace. We believe that our prayer with You brings new life into hearts that drying out and withering without pure water and
without Jesus. Mother, help us to become zealous missionaries of love and peace. We desire to be like You. Amen.
