PEOPLE  OF  HOPE, PEACE  AND  JOY (Father Liubo Kurtovych, OFM)

In the message in April Our Lady puts us on our guard  against the spiritual state of many hearts which are in selfishness and sin. She offers us cures for spiritual disease. These are prayer as a remedy and God as the goal and realization of our lives.

At the beginning of the message in May Our Lady says to us that we are in time of grace. Grace is God’s blessing to us, the people. The presence of Virgin Mary among us is a grace which God gives us. The apparition and messages of Our Lady are God’s grace and call from heaven to be people of hope, peace and joy.

We are in the Jubilee year of Forgiveness when the Church also calls us to live like the pilgrims of hope. Hope is a basement of human life. We are not able to live without hope. The late Pope Benedict XVI said: “Man is alive until he waits and until hope is alive in his heart.  According to his expectations a person gets to know the following: our moral and spiritual greatness may be estimated in accordance with what we are waiting for and expect”.

Christian hope differs from hope of a person who lives without God. When everything collapses, when I don’t trust in anyone and anything then the hope for an encounter with God Who holds in His hands our lives appears. That is an important difference between Christian hope and the hope which the world suggests to us.

In the world the hope leads towards the grave and you expect that the grave will come later. Christian hope encompasses much more than the grave. The grave may come right now or tomorrow however we expect life beyond the grave. Life is more powerful than death. If I have hope that my life is in God’s hands then nothing in this world can destroy me or steal this hope from me and my daily life will be filled with power. I will not give way to despair and hopelessness rather I will be able to use my life in the best way.

Our Lady calls us to pray to the Holy Spirit for Him to fill us with His gift of courage and surrender. We need to pray together with the psalmist: “Commit thy way unto the LORD; Trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass” (Ps. 37:5). We should have courage to give up and surrender ourselves to God. Our spiritual growth depends on it. That person who relays upon God is able to surrender completely to Him.

We don’t need to wait for the difficult moments in order to surrender to Him. Now is the right moment. Today  is a day when it is necessary to do it. You need to do it in the simplest way. You may have the only gaze which will be exalted from your heart to God’s Heart. It is also sufficient the only thought. It is sufficient to say three or four words: “Lord I surrender to You!” Then you will feel your release from pressure that is put on you. If you carry out the act of surrender to God with trust again and again you will comprehend how you may get free from anxiety and fear. If you give everything to God then  you will believe that He reigns over everything. You may be tranquil. God is kind and He desires only good. If you are in the swirl of unpleasant moments because of someone’s weakness then you can be peaceful as well. God will walk with you through this valley of evil. Just surrender to Him with faith and let Him be Your Lord.

Let’s listen attentively to Our Lady’s call as She walked on the same paths that we do.

Prayer

Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace, we appeal to You and to Your powerful intercession before God for You to obtain for us peace which we so desperately need, for our hearts, families and people. You call us to do everything with the heart. War begins in the heart but peace also begins in the heart. We trust all our life, our joy and sorrows into Your Motherly hands so that You may obtain for us hope, peace and joy and as well as for so many hearts which are empty, wounded and lack the meaning of life. Thank You, O Mary, that without ceasing You call Your children to turn to God. Thank You for all those who have taken Your words with seriousness as well as for those who will believe in the future and follow Your call to return to Jesus Who is our way, truth and life. Amen
