You are lulled to sleep (Fr. Lubo Kurtovych, OFM)

You are lulled to sleep (Fr. Lubo Kurtovych, OFM)
Our Lady of Medjugorje’s February 25, 2026 monthly message:
“Dear children, in this time of grace, anew, I am calling you to offer your lives to God that He may lead you
towards the resurrection through your personal conversion. Little children, God is near to you and heeds your
prayers, but you are lulled to sleep, and that is why He sent Me to you to awaken you, and that you may shine
holiness like a spring flower. Thank you for having responded to My call” (with ecclesiastical approval).
In January monthly message Our Lady called us to be prayer and a blessing for all who have not come to know God
and His love. We can not be a blessing and a sign for others if we are not connected through prayer with One Who is
the blessing and the light, that is God. Therefore, in this message Our Lady as a Mother warns us and desires to
awaken us from spiritual sleep: “…you are lulled to sleep, and that is why He sent Me to you to awaken you…”
Jesus warns us as well: “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the
anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face
of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and
that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man”. (Lk. 21:34-36)
Carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life are the realities that close our hearts to God and to our neighbors
making us lulled to sleep. Paul says: “The flesh wars against the spirit and the spirit is in conflict with the flesh”.
There is a constant struggle within us. For the flesh dominates within us we easily forget what we have read in the
Holy Scripture. We forget about what we reflected upon while praying the Holy Rosary. We see that the flesh is the
greatest enemy of man.
How long does it take us to satisfy our stomachs? At least three times a day. Then we must let our bodies rest. Think
about how long you need to work during the day. Why? In order to have clothes, food and drink. Reflect on your need
to get up every morning. You should wash, comb your hair, get yourself in order and get dressed. Are you aware of
how many hours you spend just on this? How much time do you spend on your body? You work at your job at least
eight hours. Imagine how much time you spend. Why? What do you gain from doing these things? Money!
However it gains nothing for your soul, spirit and life. Everything is for our flesh. How much time and energy do
you spend just on taking care of your body? How many hours, days, months and years? Do you realize that all of this
is of no real use at all?
Just try to calculate how many hours a day or month you spend only on your body. How much time do you spend on
your body when it is sick? Look at the great number of hospitals, clinics and rehab centers? How many doctors,
medical training centers and investigations are there? Everything is for the body.
Have you ever tried to spend even a minute of your time caring for your soul for it to be healed, for your soul to enjoy
it?
The slavery to our body destroys ourselves. You think you have to look after your body – but this is a lie as well.
Jesus says: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what
you will wear… Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly
Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Mth. 6:25-26).
Jesus clearly says that we have no right to take care for our body excessively. Yet the devil lures us primarily through
the body.
Jesus says us the same as He did to His disciples in Gethsemane: “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into
temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Mth. 26:41).
Prayer
Virgin Mary, You are completely devoted to God and fully Divine therefore You desire us also become like You, to
feel and live in the fullness of grace which God gives us through You. Mother Mary, may Your words according to
God’s grace awaken us from spiritual sleep, make us free from attachment to our bodies so that we may become fully
available for God and for all that is eternal. We entrust to Your Motherly intercession all people and every region of
this earth where war and hatred prevail. May the peace that only God gives descends into the hearts of men and
nations through Your Matherly intercession. Amen.
